Welcome to Chandigarh!

The 33rd Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Periodontology

This year’s meeting is the latest step in a long—and exciting—professional journey.  Thirty-three years ago, a small number of periodontists organized a workshop in Mumbai, with the goal of advancing the science and practice of periodontics in India. This well-received workshop was a milestone in our profession, encouraging interaction among colleagues, and leading to the formation of the Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP). This valuable society benefited greatly from the commitment and enthusiasm of those early members.

The journey that started in a small way, with a few visionaries in an office in Mumbai, today has taken shape in the 33rd Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Periodontology being held at Chandigarh. A turnout of more than 1,200 periodontists from all over the country is expected. Those of us on the organizing committee consider it a great honor to host this mega event, which brings with it high expectations and rich traditions from the past. For the past eight months, every single individual on the committee has worked very hard, often at the expense of our personal time with our families, to put together an event for our colleagues that would stay in their minds and hearts for a long time.

On the scientific front, we have dared to deviate from the usual agenda to present an event which will cover the science of periodontology in all its entirety, encouraging the attendees to pursue more questions, furthering our collective research. For the first time, the conference includes lectures and deliberations on a range of topics including Lasers, Piezosurgery, Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics, Host Modulation, and Perio-Systemic Connection. We have been fortunate in attracting a galaxy of international speakers, each one of them not only a worldwide authority, but also a source of inspiration for our students. Here at Chandigarh, we feel privileged by the presence of such eminent personalities among us.

We are also pleased to be the guests of Chandigarh, a world-renowned city with a high quality of life. Known as the “City Beautiful,” and an outstanding example of contemporary India, Chandigarh combines a modern city with natural preservation. In addition, the culture of Punjab is uniquely welcoming, with a tradition of hospitality that considers a guest to be a representative sent by God.

We hope that all the delegates leave this land with a smile on their face, fond memories, and a renewed enthusiasm. We assure you that you shall find us here whenever you return.
