From the Editor-in-chief

Noshir R. Mehta, BDS, MDS, DMD, MS

Dear dental colleagues,

This month’s continuing education article asks, “What role do dentists play in promoting healthier lifestyles?” As oral healthcare professionals, we see firsthand the results of daily nutritional and personal hygiene choices made by our patients. With our awareness of the oral–systemic link, we have the knowledge and opportunity to expand our roles as healthcare educators.

“Oral Health Means More Than Just Healthy Teeth” discusses the impact of harmful eating and drinking patterns not only on oral health, but on the patient as a whole. The author suggests specific ways that we can educate and encourage our patients to develop better habits.

Our second continuing education article, “Restoration of the Endodontically Treated Tooth,” returns us to the core of dentistry, with an in-depth discussion of all the factors involved in evaluating and treating this condition. The author provides practical guidelines for various treatment situations, along with reference tables on different types of posts.

Also in this issue you will find a detailed clinical case report on “An Interdisciplinary Approach for Congenitally Missing Maxillary Lateral Incisors.” This article provides a stepwise guide to treatment planning and implementation.

As the official publication of the Dental Council of India (DCI), Dentistry India is pleased to provide continuing dental education (CDE) articles. Our readers have an accessible, free method of earning CDE credits (accepted and recognized by the DCI) by successfully completing the tests located on our web site at www.dentistryindia.net.
